Remained in Germany after the war as part of BAFO. Having carried out missions in preparation for, during and after D-Day, in support of 21 Army Group, the squadron began to re-equip with Spitfires in November 1944. The squadron retained Lysanders until April 1942, but also used the Tomahawk for tactical reconnaissance, both types being replaced by Mustangs. Specialising in Army Co-operation, it successively converted to the Atlas and then the Lysander, which it took to France again in 1939 as part of the Air Component of the BEF. It stayed at Farnborough until April 1927, when it moved to Shanghai as part of RAF China, but returned to the UK at Manston in September 1927. It reformed a few days later on 1 February 1920 in Ireland equipped with Bristol Fighters. Returning to the UK in February 1919, it disbanded on 20 January 1920. 2 soon settled into the routine of a Corps reconnaissance squadron initially with BE2's and later FK8's. In 1914, the squadron joined the rest of the BEF in France. Unit was formed on as one of the original squadrons of the RFC. Copper gilt with enamels (intact), vertical pin. 2 Squadron Badge, WW2 vintage with King's Crown. Good collectable substitute for a hard to find - original badge. We can narrow production period to late 1948 until mid 1949. Reverse is marked with 3 distinct punches: 800 (silver fineness), FP (Provaznik) and state silver proof hallmark (5 with mountain-cross) wich was used 1929-1949. Some of red enamel is chipped in top arm of the star, otherwise condition is very good. Badge darkened with age, original 3 prongs still present! Multi part construction. Conversion was most likely done by Zukov but definitely early (as later examples - even conversions all bore Zukov's punch mark). Quality is very good, manufactured by FP (Provaznik). Item # Avi-191 *SOLD*įlight Mechanic 1947/1953 Converted badge in hallmarked silver. Two fine thread posts/nuts for fastening. Yellow 'night-vision' rays and bomb released from the wing. Great design of a bat with an outstetched wings in front of a moon. This was the final action of the Belgian Air Force during German invasion. It was the German main supply line into the Low Countries during early stages of the War. One of the pilots tried to crash his machine into the bridge but missed, so did all bombs as unit was never trained for the low-level bombing missions. One squadron, with incredibly brave crews was decimated in a raid against the German-held bridges at Veldwezelt and Vroenhoven. Equipped with absolete Fairey Battles and Foxes - unit took part in the tragic action around Maastricht (Netherlands) on May 11, 1940. At some point it was re-designated as a Long Range Reconnaissance/Bombing suadron but little is known when. Unit was quite active at the beginning of the War.
